The ALA Youth Services Committee Presents... Tea & Comics!
2
Please use the signup tab to indicate the comic(s) you'd like to book talk during our Tea & Comics event
3
You do not have to sign up to book talk in order to attend the event. Feel free to just come and listen to people talk about comics they love!
4
Comics can be of any genre (sci fi, realistic, fantasy, nonfiction/information, etc.) so long as their intended audience is youth (ages 0-18)
5
Recent comics are encouraged (published in the last 5 years), but if you know an often-overlooked gem that is a little older, feel free to talk it up!
6
You may sign up to book talk up to three (3) titles
7
Please do not pick a title that someone else has already signed up to talk
8
It is encouraged but not required that you bring a copy of the comic you're book talking
9
Aim for your talk to be 3-7 minutes long. Successful book talks include a description of the comic, art style, story, genre, etc., with enough details to hook a reader without spoiling the story. You can also use other comics, books, movies, TV shows, or other media as selling points (e.g., "If you like Harry Potter, this fantasy comic might be for you!")
10
You do not need to provide visual aids (unless you'd like to!), a slide with the comic's cover and information will be created for you
11
If you want to create a visual aid, please use powerpoint or google slides and email it to Nicole Miller (joannam2@illinois.edu) no later than 5pm on December 5
12
The deadline to sign up for book talks is 5 pm on December 5
