General Application Requirements

For full consideration, each applicant should provide all of the following:

  1. A cover page containing the title of the research and the applicant’s name, university identification number (UIN), contact information (address, department, university mail code, telephone number, and email), and advisor’s name and contact information.
  2. A brief, but complete, description of the research, not to exceed four double-spaced pages, written for the non-specialist reader, which clearly states: 
    • The research problem and rationale
    • Relevance to the field of career development
    • How this research adds to the knowledge in the field and addresses under-researched questions or topics
    • Description of the nature and methods of the research project
  3. One-year project timeline.
  4. Up to seven keywords highlighting key features of the research (see examples from past winners on the Larsen Grant website)
  5. Proposed budget indicating how the grant funds would be used directly for research expenses and rationale for the expenditures. (Note: Conference travel to present research will not be funded by this grant.)
  6. A letter of support that evaluates the research project, speaks to the project’s significance, and endorses the proposed budget. A faculty member, thesis or project advisor, or department head may write this letter.
  7. A statement regarding the status of the Institutional Review Board approval process related to this research project.
  8. Signed “Consent to Release” form (available below).

Spring 2024 Requirements of Recipients

The expected project period for Robert P. Larsen Grants is one year.  All expenses should be incurred and project report completed within that one-year period. All required documents are to be presented to the Larsen Grant Coordinator at The Career Center within one year of receiving this funding (no later than April 12, 2025).

  1. Research funds will be deposited into the recipient’s student account via university voucher, with 50% deposited following receipt of the signed fund acknowledgement form and copy of the IRB approval letter, and the remaining 50% deposited upon receipt of the final written report.
  2. Spring 2023 recipients will present their research findings to the University of Illinois community in the Spring 2024 Larsen Symposium facilitated by The Career Center for Larsen grant recipients. Spring 2024 recipients are strongly encouraged to attend this symposium. Spring 2024 recipients will present their research findings in the Spring 2025 Larsen Symposium.
  3. All publications derived from research funded by the Robert P. Larsen Grant will acknowledge support.
  4. Recipients are encouraged to present findings of this research at professional organizations and to submit findings for publication.

All complete applications received by Sunday, March 17, 2024 will be reviewed. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee and carefully evaluated based on the information submitted by the applicant. Award recipient(s) will be notified by April 12, 2024.
