About the Illinois Mathematics Lab

Our name has changed! Formerly Illinois Geometry Lab, we are now known as Illinois Mathematics Lab.

The Illinois Geometry Lab was founded Professor Jayadev Athreya and graduate student Anton Lukyanenko in Fall 2011 with the vision of providing a home for undergraduate research projects in geometry and visualization for a small group of students – originally all mentored by Athreya and Lukyanenko.  Within a few short years and thanks to grant support and substantial commitment by the faculty, graduate students, and alumni of the Department of Mathematics, IGL grew beyond this vision to include research projects in all areas of mathematics, mathematical outreach to schools and to the public, and summer opportunities for high school students and undergraduates.

To better represent the wide scope of its activities, Illinois Geometry Lab has changed its name to Illinois Mathematics Lab.

Illinois Mathematics Lab is funded by the Department of Mathematics and by generous gifts from private donors.
