Beekeeping is a multifaceted practice that offers numerous benefits to individuals, communities, and the environment. Illinois Extension is teaming up with Food Works of Southern Illinois to offer a beekeeping 101 course as part of the modern homesteading series. Kenny Fisher of Arrowhead Apiary will share his experience in beekeeping and discuss what to consider before getting bees, how to get and maintain bees, bee care, and how to harvest honey.
This program would not be possible without the generous support of the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP), which provides technical assistance and wrap-around support for transitioning and existing organic farmers.
University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in programming, contact Maggie Ray at mro@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your needs.
Join Illinois Extension each month as we host a series of free modern homesteading programs in 2024. For a full list of topics and to register for upcoming programs, please visit go.illinois.edu/ModernHomesteading.
