The definition below is from the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and is followed by most federal funders:

Research data is "the recorded factual material commonly accepted in the scientific community as necessary to validate researching findings.”

I'm a spacer
In other words, research data is the information that has been collected, observed, or created and used to generate figures/graphs/tables, and conclusions. Based on this definition, here are some guidelines to identify research data:
- are the raw/underlying data on which summary statistics, graphs, tables, and conclusions are based.
- are not the preliminary analyses, drafts of scientific papers, peer review reports, and summary statistics, graphs/tables presented in your research publications.
