BUILD A ROBOT and MAKE IT DANCE in this 4-H Virtual SPIN Club focused on basic robotics! (SPIN stands for SPecial INterest)

 

Who: Recommended for youth ages 10 and older (you can sign up as an individual or youth in the same household can sign up & work together)

What: Learn to build robots using LEGO EV3 kits and program them to complete tasks or avoid obstacles.

When: Meets for 10 weeks on Thursday evenings, 6 to 7 p.m. beginning Feb. 11, 2021 (ending March 25, 2021)

Where: Online (typically via Zoom format)

How: Check out a kit from DuPage, Kane and Kendall County 4-H, and join the weekly SPIN Club meetings to learn new things, show your progress, and get additional guidance. You will work with your kit at home and design and program your Boogie Bot. The meetings will be recorded, and lessons may also be recorded separately.

Cost: $20* 4-H enrollment fee per youth. 4-H Enrollment will need to be completed via 4-H Online in January 2021 (look for more instructions in the new year!)

Kit pick-up: Kit pick-up is tentatively scheduled for early February, and more information will be sent in January. Robotics kits may be checked out from the University of Illinois Extension Office upon completion of checkout form and with the submission of a refundable $100 deposit (via check dated May 15, 2021 with the check to be returned following return of kit with all parts and in working condition.)

Culminating event: The Boogie Bot Challenge (Virtual) Showcase for DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties is optional but is recommended. Entries will likely be due early April, and more information will be coming in 2021! (A $10 showcase fee per participating team will be collected at a later date.)

Registration is required. In January, registrants will receive secure virtual meeting information and other instructions. 

Registration opens Dec. 21 and closes Jan. 29, 2021 (or when class meets capacity).
