Explore ways to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit at the 3rd annual Winter Wellness Family Event at Watch Tower Lodge at Black Hawk Park in Rock Island, IL from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, February 17. Presented in collaboration with Black Hawk State Historic Site, this event is your perfect winter day escape into a world of health and wellness.

This year the focus will be on lessons learned from the Blue Zones which are regions of the world where people are known to live longer and experience higher rates of well-being. Most Blue Zones have diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes which provide essential nutrients and contribute to overall health. Visitors will get to sample these ingredients as they build their own flavorful "Blue Zone Bowl" and warm up with a selection of hot tea, and hot chocolate. Nurses from UnityPoint Health will be on hand offering diabetes assessments, blood pressure screenings, health resources, class information, giveaways, and more.

Strong social bonds and a sense of community are consistently present in Blue Zones. Spend time in the company of others while you work on a variety of hands-on crafts. Enjoy the tunes of classical guitar music by local artist Jeffrey Davies.

Explore interactive stations offering insights on reducing food waste, creating eco-friendly cleaning products, and learning heart-healthy practices. Delve into the significance of nutrition with Blue Zones lessons, and grab a free 2024 Eat.Move.Save recipe calendar from SNAP-Ed. After you visit the various activity stations, turn in your completed sheet for a chance to win a Mediterranean Bowl meal kit to take home and make.

Kids will enjoy activities by 4-H, AOK Childhood Network, and an exciting indoor obstacle course. Capture your memories at the selfie station, and be sure to visit the Hauberg Museum inside the Lodge to learn about Sauk and Meskwaki (Fox) Indians.

Don't miss this fun-filled day of wellness for all ages! Support for this event is provided, in part, by the Rock Island County Extension & 4-H Education Foundation.
