Tips for your Readme and Data Dictionaries

        • Consider Lexend, Arial, and Helvetica fonts when writing your data documentation.
        • Use bulleted lists (like this one) that can be identified by screen readers.
        • Include appropriate heading levels throughout your documentation.
        • Keep font sizing at a minimum of 12px.

Color Accessibility

  • Aim for colors that have high contrast with one another.
  • Be mindful of your content being friendly for readers with color blindness; avoid the use of red/green or blue/orange together.
    • Refer to the UIUC's branding kit to learn what shades of blue and orange pair together.
  • Use the WebAIM Contrast Checker to verify that the colors and sizes you’ve chosen work together.

Microsoft Word Accessibility Checker

Tools for Testing and Evaluating

                  • Accessibility Checkers in Microsoft OfficeAdobe Acrobat, and ANDI help determine the reading order of your documents, websites, and provide tools to assign hierarchical tags to your text.
